How to Cure Toenail Fungus
Are you embarrassed by your toenail fungus and wanting to find a cure right now? If the answer is yes then your going to want to read this article as we outline some of the symptoms and cures available.
Toenail fungus (also known as onychomycosis) is a fungal infection that can occur in fingernails but most commonly occurs in the toenails. Common symptoms of the fungus appear under the nail as a discoloured white/yellow cloudy colour that grows thick, overgrown and can often split. The fungus enters through a cut or weakened nail and spreads rapidly as it grows in the perfect warm damp conditions that the feet can provide for the fungus. The fungus feeds on the protein that is contained in the hard nail surface as it continues to grow.
The toenail fungus can grow on more than one toe nail but usually appears on the biggest and the smallest toenail. It can take the form of several different patterns and can often look rough like sandpaper. Prevention is key to maintaining healthy toes. The fungus can be caught in many shared facilities such as gym locker rooms and showers. Wearing flip flops and keeping your feet clean by drying your feet thoroughly before wearing clean socks can help prevent the fungus growth. Unhygienic nail salons are also typical places where the fungus can be caught.
Treatment for ToeNail Fungus
The treatment available for toenail fungus will depend on the severity of the fungal infection. It can be difficult to completely treat as the fungus can grow back. Consulting a doctor or your healthy professional is the most recommend way of receiving the best treatment. Your doctor will be able to assess the severity of infection especially if you have left the fungus untreated for a long period of time. Treatments range from fungus creams to laser treatment, your doctor will be able to recommend whether it is necessary to use laser treatment. Laser treatment uses infrared radiation which is painless and safe. It usually takes about 2-3 sessions to cure using laser treatment however there is a high cost involved for the treatment and you may want to try a home remedy method.
There are many home remedy treatments available for toenail fungus that have been known to work very well. These home remedies utilise products such as peroxide, nail polish, pure alcohol, vinegar and Vicks VapoRub. You may find you already have many of these items available in your house.
